Apex Gate Drill
Goal: learn to match line and speed
Description: This drill is an advanced version of the corridor drill and will train your feel in exactly matching line and speed on the greens. From your starting position, try to alternately roll your putt through the lower gate for high power and the higher gate for die-in speed, while still making it. This drill requires a very high level of precision and will sharpen your visualization skills on breaking putts, as you learn to understand what difference the intended power in your putts make.
Setup:
- choose a hole in a severe slope to putt to
- place a tee at your starting point roughly 10 feet from the hole
- scan your putt and select the apex point visual
- set the power to 0 feet
- place two tees around the apex of your putt – just wide enough, so a ball can roll through
- set the power to 3.3 feet
- again, place two tees around the apex of your putt
