My line looks off
Most likely cause
Your Stimp setting does not match the green you are standing on. It is the one setting that shifts every line the app draws, and a mismatch looks convincing while being wrong in a consistent direction.
Check this first
First, check your Green Speed and Power settings. Do they reflect the reality? If you don't know the exact Stimp, take an educated guess. If the line shows more break than the green delivers, lower the Stimp. If it shows less break, raise the Stimp
If that isn't it
- Power setting different from the intended distance past the hole. A putt that drops into the hole at dead-weight speed generally takes a different line from a putt that would roll past the hole.
- The scan quality is poor. If the ground dots never turned green between your ball and the hole, the app is working with a low-quality scan of the putting surface.
- Question your own read. Before deciding the app is wrong, reconsider your own read. Confirm that you are hitting putts on-line by using the recording feature.
What this is not
A line that looks unfamiliar is usually a green that behaves differently from your expectation, not a fault. Most players read less break than a green actually has, so a line that looks like too much is often the read doing its job.
