How I improved my
consistency by 18%

Hendrik Stoffel

If you don’t know your numbers, where do you even start to improve? When I started playing golf, I was lucky my coach had one of the first launch monitors on the market, so I learned to understand what matters most in golf very early on. The relationship between golf biomechanics, club and ball impact data, and the resulting trajectory.

While back then plenty of data was rather abstract and could better be compared to computing code than to visually appealing and conditioned graphics and tables made for the average golfer, these days the likes of Foresight are doing a great job creating consumer-friendly dashboards and visuals. Essential understandings in impact data and swing mechanics helped me get PGA-Tour-like Greens in Regulation numbers well above 65%. However, I still got stuck at scratch with my short game and especially putting holding me back from consistently breaking par.

I was looking for similar technology to help me understand and fix my putting stroke – my putting performance. Using analytical tools in clinical conditions hasn’t really made a difference to me in this very special area of the game. I learned my motion was pretty good but still didn’t understand why my putts wouldn’t find the bottom of the cup.

That was until I practiced with PuttView for the first time.

Earlier this year my home club significantly upgraded their indoor facilities and also invested into a PuttView green – a cutting-edge technology I always wanted to try for myself. And what can I tell? I finally found the reason for losing so many strokes on the green. While my motion is spot-on on a flat surface, I not only struggle in correctly reading break putts, I also tend to push these regardless of slope and sub-consciously adjust my speed to compensate for my other mistakes. It’s not much, but .5 of a mile slow and 1.2° to the right on average is enough to miss more than make from crucial scoring distances.

Without PuttView, I would have never been able to get as detailed insights into my putting data as I have. It’s no more guessing – just facts. Facts that have helped me dramatically improve on the greens. To be more precise, facts that helped me making almost 50% of all putts between six and ten feet, compared to less than 40% before practicing with PuttView. I now know what I need to focus on in practice and competition. Thanks to PuttView, I know I can trust my aim point, my motion, my routine even under the highest amounts of pressure.
